A Ton of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays

The winter break provide a multitude of pastimes far superior than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to not arguing with family members. I hope you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments emerged during the break, and should you didn't see a few, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the notorious disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop more episodes. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a good sign. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has yet to be revealed.
